The Cowichan Consort Choir and Orchestra present Stabat Mater by renowned Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, a powerful and deeply moving choral-orchestral work that transcends tradition and language.

Based on the 13th-century Latin hymn reflecting on grief, compassion, and human suffering, Jenkins’ Stabat Mater weaves together classical choral writing with global musical influences, including Middle Eastern rhythms, folk elements, and contemporary harmonies. The result is a work that feels both ancient and strikingly modern.

Performed by the full Cowichan Consort Orchestra and Choir, this concert offers an immersive experience, one that invites reflection, empathy, and connection through music. Stabat Mater speaks not only to sorrow, but also to resilience and shared humanity, making it a profoundly resonant work for our time.

Join us for an evening of sweeping orchestral colour, expressive choral sound, and music that lingers long after the final note.
